LHS Historic Fun Fact

LHS has produced some amazing graduates, but one class shines a little brighter than the others.

The Class of 1977!

This class excelled in athletics producing the first state championship team with the men's basketball program and they were immediately followed by the baseball team also winning a state championship, led by the great Buddy Lowe. (The field at Pat Thomas stadium was later named after Coach Lowe.)

The same class has held some notable graduates that forever left their mark on LHS.
Tammy (Ross) Jerkins was the class valedictorian and later taught math at her alma mater. She was named the 2018 Florida Teacher of the Year and was honored with the naming of the library the "Tammy Ross Jerkins Center for Learning."

And finally, the music department was forever changed by the talents of Jack Hart. Mr. Hart graced the field his senior year as the band drum major for 1977. He later returned to LHS and won countless awards with the marching Jackets during his 20 years as the band director.

LHS Historical Fun Fact 👀 Leesburg and Dabney are forever connected in LHS history. Coach Dabney was a champion before, during, and after the schools integration in 1969. His 47 year career in education impacted countless students in and out of the classroom. He is credited for being a integral figure shaping the athletic department of Leesburg High School. His service led to naming the football stadium in his honor, H.O. Dabney stadium.
